Today is an important day.
Today the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released its final report and recommendations after 6 years gathering stories from residential school survivors. The recommendations are not just a call for government action – they challenge each and every one of us to recognize the injustices done to Indigenous peoples in our shared history. It challenges us to engage and take action to remedy past and present wrongs. The report marks the close of the Commission’s work; but it offers another chance at beginning the hard work of reconciliation which must be done not by our government, our courts or institutions, but by all of us.
