Ermineskin Cree Nation’s legal action against Canada regarding the Nation’s right to safe drinking water

Ermineskin Cree Nation is pursuing legal action against Canada regarding the Nation’s right to safe drinking water.

Karey Brooks and Clayton Leonard are representing the Ermineskin Cree Nation in a legal action about the right to safe drinking water of Ermineskin and its members. The action was originally filed against Canada in 2014 but was put in abeyance in an effort to negotiate a solution to Ermineskin’s unsafe drinking water. However, in February 2024 Canada backtracked on promises and so Ermineskin ended the negotiations and is proceeding with the legal action. Ermineskin’s Chief and Council have resolved to pursue the legal action until every member of the Nation has access to safe drinking water.
