JFK’s Claire Truesdale presents at the Indigenous Membership and Identity Forum held by the Pacific Business & Law Institute

On January 30th, JFK’s Claire Truesdale presented at the Indigenous Membership and Identity forum held by the Pacific Business & Law Institute (PBLI) in Vancouver on Indian Status, Membership, and the Second-Generation Cut-off in Canadian Law.

This presentation highlighted the impacts the Indian Act had on Indian Status, Membership and community cohesion and identity. The presentation also touched on what Canadian law says about who can exercise Aboriginal and Treaty rights, and how Métis and Inuit organizations have their own criteria for membership that is not legislated by Canada.

If you missed the Forum, it will be available for rebroadcast on demand on PBLI’s website in the coming weeks: https://www.pbli.com/rebroadcasts.
