Siksika Nation litigates to protect the Nation’s lands and water supply against Alberta’s decision to build a new dam on the Bow River

The Siksika Nation is challenging Alberta’s decision to proceed with a new dam and reservoir on the Bow River upstream from the Nation’s lands and water supply.

Robert Janes, KC, Kaelan Unrau and Clayton Leonard are acting for the Siksika Nation in a legal action filed on December 16th, 2024.  Despite concerted efforts by Siksika to work with Alberta on an assessment of the impacts three proposed dam sites upstream from Siksika, the province failed to include Siksika in the study or to otherwise address the Nation’s concerns about impacts on its reserve lands and water supply.
