Moira grew up on Alexander First Nation in Treaty 6 territory, Alberta. She is now grateful to be living and learning on lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking territory, specifically on the lands of the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations.

Moira will be entering her fourth and final year studying law this fall at the University of Victoria, in the joint degree program in Canadian Common Law (JD) and Indigenous Legal Orders (JID). In 2023, her moot team placed fourth overall in the Julius Alexander Isaac Moot, the only moot in Canada that focuses both on law and critical race theory. Throughout law school, Moira has worked as a research assistant to Dr. Sarah Morales, working on issues related to the impact of private land grants in Coast Salish territory, Indigenous child and family laws, and Indigenous criminal justice.

Moira is very involved in her community through grassroots organizing for decolonization, Indigenous rights, and climate justice. She helps to train legal observers and de-escalators to support protests and demonstrations. Moira is also very involved in politics and has previously worked as a political staffer to Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change. She has also volunteered and worked on many different federal, provincial, and municipal election campaigns.

Moira has a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from the University of Alberta, where she did a dual concentration in Indigenous Environmental Studies and Canadian Environmental Studies. In her undergrad, Moira was actively involved in university debate and served as the president of the University of Alberta Debate Society.

In her free time Moira enjoys reading, sewing, spending time near water, and playing soccer.
