Consultation & Accommodation

Indigenous communities need to be heard when decisions may affect their Section 35 rights. We provide strategic advice and representation on all aspects of the Crown’s duty to consult and accommodate, helping clients identify impacts, advance their concerns and seek meaningful accommodation.

Governance

JFK Law helps clients develop, refine and implement governance structures, laws, bylaws and policies that meet current needs while honouring traditional legal traditions and values. This work includes membership and election codes, constitutions, inter-governmental and inter-Nation accords, and reserve land use.

Treaty-Related Negotiations

Modern Treaty-related negotiations are complex and require a careful, thorough and respectful approach. JFK Law works with Indigenous Nations at different stages of Treaty processes, as well as with Nations involved in complex negotiations about land, governance and resources.

Inuit Nunangat Services

JFK is a leader in supporting Inuit within and outside of Inuit Nunangat. Our work with Inuit Treaty Organizations, Regional Inuit Associations, Landholding Corporations, Hunters and Trappers Associations, cultural institutes, and individuals is undertaken with a deep understanding and respect for the unique legal, historical, cultural, and geographical realities of Inuit within Canada.

What We Do

Regulatory Review

From project referrals in traditional territories to environmental assessments and other regulatory review processes, we work with clients to advance their interests clearly and effectively, helping ensure their rights, concerns and perspectives are understood.

Impact Benefit Agreements

We advise Indigenous governments and organizations on negotiating fair and effective impact benefit agreements with project proponents. Each agreement reflects the parties, project and territory, and our approach is to help clients protect their rights while securing meaningful benefits.

Commercial Agreements

Commercial agreements with project proponents may include joint ventures, equity transactions, land transactions and other arrangements. We help clients negotiate agreements that reflect the value of their support and deliver fair, practical and lasting benefits.

Indigenous Business and Economic Development

Indigenous governments are pursuing economic development in ways that support prosperity, honour traditional laws and protect cultural and environmental integrity. JFK Law works with communities to build clear decision-making systems that support sustainable, values-based development.
